Our Heritage

The Misbourne officially opened on 20 January 1956 and was the first modern built secondary school in the UK.  Set in the beautiful surroundings of the Chiltern Hills, with purpose built subject specific areas, tennis courts and large playing fields, The Misbourne has developed strong links with its community and is always looking to involve the school in new initiatives to help others.

Our school serves the village of Great Missenden in which its spacious and attractive campus is situated near to the family house and museum of the Roald Dahl foundation.  It also serves the villages of Prestwood, Great Kingshill, Little Kingshill, Hyde Heath, South Heath, Ballinger, The Lee and Lee Common and is enrolling students from an increasingly larger geographical base for example, from High Wycombe, Chesham and Amersham.

Our students join the school from outside the reserved area and there is enormous pressure on the availability of such places, for which there is no entitlement to free transport.  Prospective parents are advised to take careful note of the information given annually by Buckinghamshire County Council because it is possible for the legal situation regarding admissions to change from year to year.  The initial responsibility for entry into our year seven cohort is the responsibility of, and administered by, Buckinghamshire County Council.

The school has held the Specialist School Status as an Arts and Technology College since 2006 and these areas, along with all other subjects, have grown from strength to strength with many successful performances in school productions such as Bugsy in 2015, with a new production scheduled for 2016-2017, as well as the highly regarded annual Art and Photography exhibition in June.

The Misbourne's examination results, both at GCSE and at A Level,  are a testament to the commitment of students, parents and staff to ensure that all of our students achieve well academically and are strongly supported by our dedicated pastoral teams.

Staff combine their responsibilities for work within the school with supporting and extending curricular provision across other schools and across all phases. We work with a variety of primary schools and other educational establishments sharing our expertise.

We are proud of our school and welcome visitors, confident that you will discover that our finest ambassadors within the family of The Misbourne are the students and staff who will always offer you a warm and friendly welcome.
